GT coach finally got a new desktop to keep their fans up to date.

Today we had a tough season opener against the #6 UNC Tarheels.

The game started out bad as UNC forced a fumble on the sideline and recovered it on the first play from scrimmage. UNC then took the ball and drove it down the field for the early td to make it 7-0. Gt got the ball and slowly drove the field on the tough UNC defense to tie the game. Then GT would get and interception to set them up in UNC's side of the field. Once again the Jackets used their option attack and Tevin Washington ran in his second score of the game. UNC would then get it back and use a high tempo no huddle attack to tie the game with 10 seconds left in the first half.

The second half began with the Heels getting the ball, and using a short attack, they drove the entire field using up almost the entire 3rd quarter before punching it in for the 21-14 lead. GT then drove all the way to the UNC 4 yard line and faced a 4th and goal with 3 minutes left. Down 21-14, GT went for it and was stuffed by the tough Heels defense. GT needed a stop to get the ball back, and thats exactly what they did. Using 2 of their timeouts, and holding UNC to a 3 and out, the Jackets got it back with just under 2 minutes left. We were able to drive the field and instead of going for the win, the Jackets tied it up at 21 with a minute left. UNC then drove to midfield. With 13 seconds left, the Heels completed a 30 yard pass to slot WR who outjumped the db and set UNC up with a game winning FG chance. Gt called a time out to ice the kicker, and there was nothing more they could do. As we watched the play clock wind all the way down to around 10 seconds, the kick went up, and was badly shanked to the left. The Jackets now had new life.

Gt got the first shot in OT and scored on 1 play as Roddy Jones took a draw right up the middle for the td. UNC drove to a 4th and inches at the GT 4 and this was the play of the game. With the normal QB swap which is a huge part of UNC's offense, GT knew it was gonna be some type of run. The RS Frosh sensation Bernard got the ball and tried to cut it back after the initial hole wasnt there. When he cut it back, the GT player met him and stood him up as the rest of the D came into help and he was stopped for a yard loss. Game over, GT wins.

This was a tough game as UNC has a very talented defense and tough offensive system with the duel QB. For the second straight year, GT escaped with a win against UNC in a game where the UNC kicker missed a GW field goal. Now the teams will continue to compete on the recruiting grounds and for the division of the ACC.

    GT - 49 Duke - 14

The Jackets continued their quest for an ACC title with a closer than the score indicated win at Duke. It was a costly win for the Jackets as they lost Heismen candidate Tevin Washington for 12 weeks with broken ribs. Washington went down in the 2nd quarter and GT already struggling, down 14-7. Backup Jordam Laullen came in and was just as good on the ground, 9 carries for 117 yards and 2 tds, but he was only 2-9 passing. This injury will really hurt going fowardas Washington was quietly putting a passing game to go along with our rushing attack. For the season Washington 13 td's and 3 int's passing, while rushing for 13 td's. Laullen has big shoes to fill now as he will have to be the man. What made this loss of Washington even worst is that RB Embry Peoples is already expected to be out till after the Clemson game. GT will now have to look for other players to step up as conference play goes on.
