    Iowa Recruiting

    Post  X on Mon Oct 18, 2010 12:39 am

    Iowa

    Dustin Perkins - WR 6'3 203 lbs **** Middletown,OH

Perkins will come in and compete for playing time early in his Hawkeye career. Perkins greatest assets are his crisp routes and ability to go up and make a big catch in traffic. He will need to work on his ability to catch the ball.

Iowa picked up it's second verbal of the season prior to week 4 games.

Brad Rodriguez - FS 6'4 207 lbs **** Chillicothe, OH

Rodriguez has a nice combination of size and ability. He might be looking at a future position change at Iowa because he's lacking top end speed. But he should have a great future with the Hawkeyes.

    Make it 3!

Iowa added a second WR to this years class.

Spencer Oliver - WR 6'0 176 lbs **** Niles, IL

Oliver will be a nice target over the middle of the field in future years for the Iowa QB's. He runs crisp routes and will go into traffic and make big catches.

    2 More

Iowa pulled the robbery this week with two more commits from the state of Ohio. Both 4 star HB prospects gave verbals to Iowa over Cincinnati. This was payback for the loss of 4 star Ohio MLB Paul Duckett to Cincinnati. This gives Iowa 4 of the top 8 players in Ohio this year.

Brandon Cooley - HB 6'1 200 lbs **** Cleveland Heights, OH
John Holland - HB 5'11 205 lbs **** Mansfield, OH

Hey look it's a kid who isn't from Ohio giving me a verbal. Laughing

Sean Davis - ATH 6'2 208 lbs Tupelo, MS

This makes 6 four star commits for the Iowa Hawkeyes with a few more possible next week.

This is going to be a very trying year in recruiting for us. The expected boost from the National Championship hasn't happened. I guys Iowa being 5 stars isn't sexy enough yet.

    First Commit of 2011

Steven Roberson - OLB 6'2 221 lbs Grosse Pt. Farms, MI ***

Roberson will redshirt and add depth to the roster. He looks like he could end up being a solid starter down the road.

Recruiting has been really awful year two for the Hawkeyes. After a very respectable first season we have taken a giant step back. We will have to rebound next year hopefully. Not many kids were interested in our program to start so it's been hard to get players. Two commits to post to bring our total to 3.

    Jesse Brooks - K 5'11 176 lbs Denison, IA ***

William Campbell - DE 6'2 263 lbs Roselle, IL ****

    Make it four!!!

    Maurice Barbour - G 6'2 275 lbs Roma, TX ****

This was a nice get for us. We had to really fight it out with Virginia Tech for Barbour. We will hopefully be able to RS him and then move him into the two deep.

In recent weeks the Iowa recruiting trail has heated up. Going from 4 commits to 8 commits now. Lets take a look at the prospects.

Travis Fields - CB 5'11 200 lbs Auburndale, FL ***

Fields is a Juco Sophomore CB from the sunshine state. He isn't a burner but shows good coverage skills. If we can't pull in another safety this year we might look to switch him to safety for a season.

Ryan Jones - DT 5'11 298 lbs Vivian, LA ***

Jones is a Juco Junior DT. He shows very good strength in the middle with strong ability to get off blocks with power and finesse moves. He should fit nicely into the DT rotation next year.

    AJ Bennett - 6'5 315 lbs T from Saco, ME ****

Bennett is a strong run blocker and steady pass blocker. He will be a nice addition to the offensive line.

Terrence McDougal 6'2 185 lbs Mesquite, TX ****

McDougal much like the other highly rated WR's recruited by Iowa is not a speed burner. But he has nice size and more than makes up for it in other categories. He has the ability to be one of the top WR's in the nation by the time he leaves Iowa.

We are looking at getting 3-4 more recruits prior to off season. So not a total loss of a season but not the best we could have done on the recruiting trail.

Iowa picked up it's first verbal of the new season this past week. We are a little behind the rest of the teams in recruiting but what's new. Somehow Clemson and Texas A&M are both 6 star schools with we are still a 5 star school and have a better record than A&M beat them and have a national championship go figure.

    2012 Recruiting

Tony Reid **** DT 6'2 282 lbs from Maplewood, MN

Tony Reid is rated the 10th best DT in this years class. He shows the ability to have plus strength, power and finesse moves and pursuit. He will need to work on his tackling and block shedding in a RS year.
